Instant Rava Dhokla | Suji Dhokla

Instant Rava Dhokla is a quick vegetarian Gujarati recipe. It is fuffy and soft in texture that is easy to make, and delicious.

Typically, people use besan or chickpea flour to make this. Sometimes even rice flour is also used. But here we are using semolina to make this instant Rava dhokla. Using semolina will give a little bit of grainy texture.

Dhokla is usually made with fermented batter, and that is what makes it fluffy. Traditionally, the batter is to be kept overnight to get it fermented. Therefore, it will most likely resemble soft idli.

However, we are using Eno powder to quicken the process. Therefore, it is ready in an instant and jiffy. Thus it saves a considerable amount of time.

We can prepare it in a limited time, and also it makes this a last-minute recipe. If you wish, you can use baking soda as well to get the thing done.

It is generally served with green chutney. But ketchup is also ok to have with it. These are fine to eat just as it is. And it is manageable food to have in your kids’ tiffin boxes.

Ingredients of Instant Rava Dhokla

  • Semolina - 200 gm
  • Salt - 1 tbsp
  • Green Chili - 1 tbsp
  • Coriander - 1 tbsp (Chopped)
  • Curd - 150 gm (To Add Gradually)
  • Eno Powder - 1 sachet
  • Water - As Required
  • Cooking Oil - 1-2 tbsp (To Grease the Mould)
  • Cooking Oil - 100 ml
  • Black Mustard - 1 tbsp
  • White Sesame Seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Green Chili - 1-2 pcs (Medium Size)
  • Onion - 1/2 pcs (Small Size)
  • Curry Leaves - 5-6 pcs

Steps for Instant Rava Dhokla

  • In a bowl add semolina, salt, chopped green chilli, and coriander. Then add curd gradually. Mix it and make a batter. Add water if needed.
  • Then add eno powder and water as required. Mix it again.
  • Now take a container or a plate and grease it with oil. Empty the batter in it and tap the container to let the bubbles release.  Steam it for 10-12 minutes.
  • Once done cut it into equal pieces and keep it aside.
  • Take a pan for tempering and heat oil in it. Add mustard and sesame seeds, slit green chillies, onions, and curry leaves in it. Temper the ingredients for some time. When done spread it on the dhokla.
  • Instant Rava Dhokla is done. Enjoy it with sauce or dip.
