Idli Manchurian Recipe

Indians have a reputation in finding ways of using leftovers things. Especially, when it comes to food we are definitely guilty of the charge. Manchurian Idli is also one such innovation.

Indians love Chinese food. We may have adapted the cuisine but we have given it our own twist regarding the taste. What we eat today at restaurants or street food is our own adaptation of Chinese. Not the authentic one.

Manchurian Idli is the combination or fusion of Chinese and South Indian cooking style. Idlis are made into dumplings and simmered with Chinese sauce along with sauteed vegetables.

These idlis, here, are diced and dipped into Chinese sauce before deep-frying it. Then those are tossed into sauteed vegetables and more Chinese base sauce to make a bit of gravy.

You can enjoy this recipe as a snack or with beverages. Or you can have it as an appetizer or can carry it in your tiffin box. The choice is yours!

Ingredients of Manchurian Idli

  • For Marination
  • Corn Flour - 1/2 cup
  • All-Purpose Flour - 1/2 cup
  • Red Chili Powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Soya Sauce - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Water - as needed
  • For Frying
  • Edible Oil - 400 ml
  • Readymade Plain Idli - 6 pcs
  • For Cooking
  • Edible Oil - 50 ml
  • Chopped Onion - 1 pcs medium size
  • Capsicum - 1/4 pcs
  • Ginger - 1 tsp
  • Chopped Green Chili - 1 pcs
  • Green Garlic - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - as needed
  • Soya Sauce - 1 tbsp
  • Vinegar - 1 tbsp
  • Spring Onion - 1/2 cup

Steps for Manchurian Idli

  • Marination
  • Take a bowl. Add corn Flour, All Purose Flour, red chili powder, black pepper powder, and soya sauce. Mix everything.
  • Now add water as needed. Water quantity depends on the measure of ingredients that you mix. Mix all well to make it a batter.
  • Deep frying
  • Take a pan, add cooking oil and heat it.
  • Now dip plain idli pieces into the brown batter and fry it. Deep fry all the idli pieces until you get the brown texture.
  • Manchurian Gravy
  • Add cooking oil in a pan &  heat it.Add chopped onion, capsicum, ginger pieces, green chili, green garlic, salt. Mix everything and saute it for a minute.
  • Add soya sauce and vinegar. Mix well and saute it for another 30 to 40 seconds.
  • Now add deep fried idli to the Manchurian sauce and mix everything.
  • Finally, add green spring onion and mix one final time. Serve it with ketchup or any of your choice's sauce.
