These are the six factors that will help you choose the best frying pans for various usages like at home, restaurant or studio.
Size matters when we are talking about frying pan. Typically we Indians prefer multifunctional items. For example, a frying pan must not only fry eggs but also cook. Yeah, you heard that right. Hence we need to take care that our frying pan is big enough.
Although this may be true yet pan size heavily depends on other factors. For instance, the number of family members & what’s being cooked in it. For those making a single egg omelette, a small pan is enough.
On the contrary, if there are more than two eggs, a bigger pan size is preferable. In the same way, if you are a bachelor, a smaller pan is what you need. Not only eggs, but you can also make a single person meal using the same pan.
Therefore, look into such details before ordering a frying pan.
A frying pan with a lid is an added advantage. When you cover the lid, the heat remains inside, speeding up the cooking process. This way you cook meals 2x fast. The issue is not all brands provide lids. The pan that you are planning to buy may or may not come with a lid. Hence, check items included in the package before ordering.
One more thing. The frying pan lids come in steel or glass material. There’s a fad to buy glass lids so that you can see through what’s going on inside. Let me tell you something. The moment you cover the glass lid, the steam will cover up. Within few seconds, your visibility will be almost zero.
You will barely be able to see what’s happening in there. Okay, now I have no intentions to stop you from buying a glass lid. But think about it. My point is your buying decision must not be based on the type of lid. That’s it.
Frying pans are manufactured in 3 different types of materials. They are stainless steel, aluminium & cast iron. All three of them are distinct & behaves accordingly when it comes to cooking. Hence, this is an important factor. Let’s talk about it in detail.
Aluminium material is widely used in making kitchen utensils. Since aluminium is lightweight, the cookware becomes easy to handle. Not only this, but aluminium heats faster than cast iron. Moreover, the heat distribution is uniform in aluminium pans.
On the other hand, aluminium pans can cause oil stains. In short, it may harm your health in the long run due to food reactions.
Cast iron is heavy but non-reactive to food items. So unlike aluminium, it takes a little longer to heat. However, the heat distribution is uniform, just like aluminium.
However, there’s a slight issue with cast iron frying pans. They are not dishwasher friendly. Moreover, they don’t support induction cooktops. In comparison to aluminium, a cast iron pan is heavy. Hence, it can be a tough job to move or wash the pan easily.
Heavy-gauge stainless steel is a popular choice of manufacturer. Unfortunately, steel pans are a bit pricy. There are several reasons as to why I am telling this.
They distribute heat evenly & are lightweight compared to cast iron. The good news is it doesn’t react with acidic food & therefore, it is considered safe.
Henceforth, it is advisable to check the materialistic features of a pan before buying.
Frying pans must have a non-stick coating. Period. The purpose of the coating is to prevent food from burning. Moreover, due to excellent heat distribution, the food cooks faster. Above all, non-stick tends to use less oil, making your food oil-free.
Now that’s something you should be looking for in a frying pan. Popular kitchenware brands manufacture pans with 3 or 4-layer coating. Those pans are expensive, but the quality of the coating is premium. Even if you use a metal spatula, knife or spoons still the coating won’t come out.
The poor quality non-stick coating will easily wear out in the second or third wash. Hence, remember this important point while buying a frying pan.
Handles are often overlooked. Users think of the frying pan’s handle to be of less importance. That’s a wrong idea. If you look closely, certain pans are delivered without attaching handles. The seller will give you nuts & bolts to fix the handle. In short, not company fitting. You have to do it on your own.
There are manufacturer’s who deliver pans with riveted handles. Now, what’s the big deal with riveted handles? First thing first, rivets are free from bolts. I mean you don’t need to tighten them. They are mechanically affixed to the pan. Moreover, they are highly secured.
This way, you get a comfy & firm grip over the pan. You can move the pan quickly in any direction without worrying much about the handle. Handles with nuts & bolts need to tighten up time & again. It is because they get loose with continuous water & oil spillage.
Check whether your pan’s handle has rivets or bolts. Consider the above points when you plan to buy your first or next frying pan.
Now that we have enough information about frying pans, let’s discuss some common queries. First, check out whether your query is there in the list below.
Not. Nonstick pans allow you to cook with very little oil which makes it one of the healthier ways to fry.
Nonstick pans allow you to cook with less oil, but the non-stick pans are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as Teflon. And there is a lot of buzz about Teflon. It is assumed to be toxic. So these pans may not be safe to cook.
As per the cancer council of Australia, Teflon is not the cause of cancer.
Non-stick pans use Teflon coating, which emit toxic fumes when heated up above certain temperatures. On the other hand, the ceramic coating is free from lead and cadmium. So, yes, ceramic coating is much better compared to Teflon coating.
The Teflon coating can come off when scratched with hard substances. So wooden or plastic spatula is recommended with non-stick frying pans. The use of steel or aluminium spatula is to be avoided. However, as per many professional chefs and various studies, scratched Teflon-coated cookware is considered safe to use.
Keeping in mind the above factors and reviews about the usage from multiple customers, here we review all the best frying pans for eggs.
