Vermicelli Upma Recipe-Semiya Upma

Vermicelli Upma recipe is a simple and easy south Indian style breakfast recipe. We can prepare this with or without vegetables. It’s a light recipe easy to digest.

You can use Vermicelli or Asian noodles in this recipe. Generally, the recipe is prepared without any veggies. Instead of that, Just adding onions into the noodles and squeeze lemon from the top of the dish & serve it.

Even you can have this as evening snacks with Tea and you can prepare with roasted semolina (rava) too.

Ingredients of Vermicelli Upma Recipe

  • Semiya -1 cup
  • Onion -1 medium size (sliced)
  • Green Chili - 2
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt and water – as needed
  • Chana dal -1 tbsp
  • Vegetables -1/4 cup (Carrot & Beans)
  • Curry leaves

Steps for Vermicelli Upma Recipe

  • Heat the oil with a medium flame. Once hot add mustard seeds and allow it to split.
  • Add chana dal and curry leaves once it turns brown add sliced onions, green chilies, and saute until onions become transparent.
  • Then add vegetables (carrot, beans) and stir for a few minutes.
  • Add required water and salt. Cover the lit and cook until the water dries up. (often check and stir to avoid to stick at bottom of the vessel). Then switch off the flame and allow it to cool for few minutes. Enjoy with sugar or tomato sauce or south Indian style coconut chutney or podi or even you can simply just have it.
