Ginger Chutney (Allam Pachadi) Recipe

Ginger chutney has a strong flavor of sweet, tangy, and spicy. It’s one of the popular chutneys in India and people eat it at breakfast.

It’s a flavor-packed chutney with amazing ingredients like ginger, coconut, curry leaves, salt, sugar, onion, red chili powder, and curry leaves. To balance the pungency taste of ginger, you can also add tamarind and jaggery.

Ginger chutney is a sweet-sour and spicy paste that goes well with dishes like dosa, uttapam, vada, idli, roti, and even rice. First, you can saute ginger with some spices and then grind in the mixture to make it even and smooth paste. Also, you can store it in an airtight container for a week and refrigerate it.

It’s hot and spicy and especially Andhra people eat it quite often. In Andhra language, it is also called as Allam Pachadi. It’s easy to make chutney and gets ready within few minutes.

Ingredients of Ginger Chutney

  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ginger - 1 small bowl
  • Onion - 1 pcs
  • Green chili - 1pcs
  • Dry Red Chili - 6 pcs (small) (whole)
  • Tamarind - 1 tbsp
  • Coconut - 1 small bowl (Shredded)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Sugar - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • White Urad Dal - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves - 5-6 pcs
  • Dry Red Chili - 1pcs (small) (whole)

Steps for Ginger Chutney

  • Heat the oil in the pan. Add ginger and onion pieces. Now mix all of them well.
  • Cut green chili into pieces and add them in the pan. Now add dry red chili whole and mix everything well.
  • Allow the whole mixture to saute till onions are light brown. Add tamarind, shredded coconut, salt, and sugar to the mixture. Mix it again.
  • Now grind the sauteed mixture.
  • Take a pan. Add oil, white urad dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chili whole. Fry everything till the white urad dal turns reddish in color. Stir occasionally.
  • Now add the ground ginger mixture to the pan. Mix everything.
  • Ginger chutney is ready to serve.
