Ven Pongal Recipe (white Pongal) is an outstanding South Indian style hereditary recipe. There is famous Pongal festival celebrated by Tamilians and this recipe is inspired by this festival.

Pongal recipe is prepared with lots of combinations like jaggery, sugar, dal, milk, etc in different ways. Ven Pongal recipe is made with a blend of rice and moong dal usually ate in breakfast across South India.

Ingredients of Ven Pongal Recipe

  • Rice - 1 Cup
  • Moong dal - 1/2 cup
  • Black Pepper - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - as needed
  • Water - as needed
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - as needed
  • Cashew nuts - as needed
  • Raisins - as needed

Steps for Ven Pongal Recipe

  • Wash and soak the rice and dal together for around 10/15 minutes.
  • Heat oil with a medium flame once hot add half of the cumin seeds and pepper.
  • Add 3-4 cups of water, rice mix with required salt and pressure cook for 5 whistles or cook with a heavy bottom vessel until it boils smooth.
  • Wait until the pressure gets released by itself. Heat ghee in the medium flame, once hot add pepper, cumin seeds, cashew, dry grapes and curry leaves. And that's your Ven Pongal South Indian style dish is ready to serve. Pongal dish is a superb accompany for coconut chutney, sambar, and Vada.
