Kathiyawadi Style Papdi Muthiya

Kathiyawadi Style Padi Muthiya Recipe is a traditional Gujarati Recipe made with steamed dumplings and broad beans (papdi). A healthy and tasteful recipe specially made by Gujarati people during winter.

Dumplings made with flat beans, three types of flours(besan, bajra, and maida), fresh fenugreek (methi), and curry made with fresh green flat beans are many Indian spices.

Green Flat Beans/Papdi raises your body temperature and provides you with essential nutrients required by it. But, unfortunately, they also die in losing weight loss and a rich source of protein.

These foods have many health benefits: helpful to Diabetic patients. Provide stronger bones. Great for pregnant women because rich in folic acid.

Ingredients of Papdi Muthiya

  • Papdi - 200 gm (green flat beans)
  • Salt - To taste
  • Gram Flour - 3 Tbsp
  • All-Purpose flour - 2 Tbsp
  • Pearl Millet - 2 Tbsp
  • Semolina - 3 Tbsp
  • Carom Seeds - 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame Seeds - 1 Tbsp
  • Cumin and Coriander Powder - 3 Tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 2 Tbsp
  • Shredded coconut - 2 Tbsp
  • Peanuts - 2 Tbsp
  • Jaggery - 1 Tbsp
  • Edible Oil - 3 Tbsp
  • Green Chili Paste - 1 Tbsp
  • Ginger Paste - 1 Tbsp
  • Fenugreek Leaves - 3 Tbsp
  • Garlic - 1 Tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves - 3 Tbsp
  • Lemon Juice - 1 Tbsp
  • Edible Oil - 4 Tbsp
  • Kasuri Methi - 1 Tbsp
  • Red Chili Powder - 1 Tbsp
  • Tomato Puree - 1 cup
  • Water - 2.5 cups

Steps for Papdi Muthiya

  • Boil papdi (green flat beans) with salt for 10 minutes. Keep it aside.
  • To make dumpling; mix besan flour, all-purpose flour, pearl millet, semolina, carom seeds, sesame seeds, cumin, and coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt, shredded coconut, peanuts, jaggery, and oil. Mix it well.
  • Now add green chili and ginger paste, fenugreek, garlic, coriander leaves, lemon juice, and water to make the dumplings (muthiya).
  • Steam muthiya for 10 min using a steamer or you can do it pouring water into a deep pan and keeping muthiya for steaming.
  • Roast cumin seeds in the pan for 1 minute. Add oil, Let it heat. Now add kasuri methi, cumin, and coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, tomato puree, coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Add boiled papdi to the mixture and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  • Finally, add steamed dumplings (muthiya) to the gravy, close the lid and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Healthy Kathiyawadi style Papdi muthiya shaak is ready to serve. Enjoy it with some lemon squeeze.
